Working principle of backlight source
Backlights provide external light sources for LCD displays by converting point light sources into surface light sources. The combination design of various layers of film materials inside the backlight is to complete the task of "converting point light sources into surface light sources", ensuring that the light is evenly irradiated on the LCD screen

Types of backlight sources
There are two main types of backlight sources: side in and direct down.

Side entry backlight: Low cost, thin thickness, low power consumption, but low and uneven brightness, commonly used for mobile phone and laptop screens. The light source is located on one side of the module, and the light is transmitted through the light guide plate before entering the liquid crystal glass through the optical film material

Direct backlight: high brightness, good uniformity, can use partition backlight design to improve brightness and contrast, commonly used in high-end IPS displays. The light source is located under the module, and the light diffuses through the diffuser plate before entering the liquid crystal glass through the optical film material

The historical development of backlight sources
Early backlight technology used CCFL backlight, but due to its high energy consumption, low efficiency, and toxic substances, it was gradually replaced by LED backlight. LED backlight has the advantages of high efficiency, low power consumption, long lifespan, and non toxicity, making it the preferred backlight source for modern LCD displays
