What is a backlight product

Backlight is a type of light source located behind a liquid crystal display (LCD), whose luminous effect directly affects the visual effect of the liquid crystal display module (LCM). The main function of a backlight source is to provide backlight for an LCD, enabling it to display images. LCD displays do not emit light themselves, but display images by modulating the light from the backlight source.
The development of backlighting can be traced back to World War II, when backlighting was used for aircraft instruments. With the development of technology, backlighting has become an important component of the electronics industry and has gradually become a hot research and development topic. At present, the mainstream LCD backlight technologies in the market include LED (Light Emitting Diode) and CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp). CCFL backlight sources have lower costs, but their color performance is not as good as LED backlight, which has thinner thickness, wider color gamut, and longer lifespan.
Types and characteristics of backlight sources:
LED backlight: Using light-emitting diodes as the light source, it has a thinner thickness, wider color gamut, and longer lifespan, but the cost is higher.
CCFL backlight: using cold cathode fluorescent lamps, the cost is lower, but the color performance is not as good as LED backlight.
Backlights are widely used in electronic products, including LCD displays, mobile phones, tablets, and more. With the advancement of technology, backlight sources have been continuously optimized in terms of display effect and lifespan, becoming an indispensable component in modern electronic products.
